You will travel to Longyearbyen where you will meet the team and become acquainted with equipment and routines. From here you will head to Svalbard where you will spend the day tracking seals and polar bears and get a rare chance to view these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. The following morning you will depart from Longyearbyen and travel on board an Antonov 74 runway jet to "Barneo" a Russian ice-station situated at about 89 degrees North. Upon arrival you will have a short briefing meeting and then you will set out onto the pack-ice, where you're North Pole expedition will begin. The Journey to the Pole Beginning your journey from Barneo, you will board a MI 8 helicopter, which will whisk you up towards the summit, you will land about 20 kilometers from the beautiful Pole. Once you land, your expedition equipment will be unloaded and the trek up towards the Pole will begin. After two days of ski trekking between 4 - 5 hours per day, depending on leads, pack ice and general ice conditions, you will finally reach your destination - The North Pole. The mountain terrain is extremely fascinating and ever-changing and the midnight sun, pack ice and this beautifully potent light will result in all participants being bitten by the polar bug; an incurable and lifelong disease. The Pole At the summit, you will be overwhelmed by the sheer beauty and the challenge you have just completed, from here you will be able to take an album of once in a life-time photographs and savor this memorable moment with your team-mates. It is now evening, but the sun will never set at this time of the year - it is the same height above the horizon day and night. You and your team mates will pitch camp, set up the tents and enjoy a well earned warming supper which will give you the chance to digest the experiences of the day. You will then spend the night at the Pole itself, on top of the majestic globe. The descent After a good night's sleep, a full and hearty breakfast will be served and you will receive a short briefing on the day's itinerary. Once the camp is packed up and ready to go, you're helicopter back to Barneo will arrive ready for your departing journey towards the foot of the mountain. Once you and your team arrive back into Barneo, you will have the unique opportunity to explore this Russian base, learning about the history and day to day operations.
